Who may participate in The Metroplex Select Cheer League?

Any child between the ages of 4 to 12.

What do teams in the league charge to cheer?

Fees vary depending on which league team you select in your area. Generally fees range between $125 and $175 per season.

Do all teams offer a scholarship program for families under financial hardship?

Yes. Each team has allocated a small pool of funds used to cover the cheer registration fee to those families in financial hardship. These scholarships are awarded by the board on a case by case basis to those families who request it in writing. Cheerleaders who receive these scholarships must still fully participate in the team fundraiser programs.

How is a cheerleader assigned to a team?

A cheerleader may register for any Metroplex Select member team they wish as long as the roster is not considered full, cheerleaders are taken on a first come first serve basis.

Are teams aged based or grade based?

Teams are based on age; however we do extended programs for middle school cheerleaders to participate.

    Flag – ages 6 & under - typically k-k2 grade cheerleaders

    Sophomores - ages 7/8 - typically 2nd and 3rd grade cheerleaders

    Juniors - ages 9/10 - typically 4th and 5th grade cheerleaders

    Seniors - ages 11-12 - typically 6th and 7th grade cheerleaders

Are there tryouts to make a team?

Although Metroplex Select member teams reserve the right to provide tryouts, they generally do not require them. There is however a limit to the number of cheerleaders allowed on a team roster.

How many cheerleaders are allowed on a team?

The maximum number of cheerleaders allowed on a team is 16.

Do all cheerleaders participate? Is there a minimum participation rule?

There is no minimum participation. How much cheerleaders participate is at the sole discretion of coaches.

9.

When does practice begin? How long does the season last?

Practices can officially begins on June 1st. Some teams may meet informally and do spring conditioning, or attend a mini-camp, but participation is not mandatory. Football season begins in August, and finishes around mid November.

Does my child need a physical examination prior to participating?

Metroplex Select encourages cheerleaders to receive a medical physical examination annually prior to participation, but we do not mandate or track it. The decision if a cheerleader is healthy enough to play is up to the parent or legal guardian who registers the cheerleader.

Who and where do teams play their games?

All games at played at either at a home or visiting team field. Check with the team in your area for more information.

All teams practice at a field in their local area. To learn more please check with the team you are interested in joining.

What is the time commitment for cheerleaders and parents?

Compared to most other youth sports, organized Cheer requires an entire team to perform as a single unit. There are generally up to 4 hours of practice per week… usually twice a week from 6pm-8pm.

Can I also cheer for my Middle School Team?

Absolutely! Metroplex Select fully supports school programs, including music, band, as well as cheer.

Do Metroplex Select teams compete in post season games?

Yes. All teams will qualify for a post season Bowl.

Do I need to provide my own Cheer uniform?

No. Teams will provide uniforms for their cheerleaders. We recommend that you check with the team you are interested in joining to see what else is provided.

What do teams provide with the registration fee and what do I still need to purchase?

Team uniform, insurance, league fees, and team banquet. Each cheerleader is responsible for providing Cheer shoes, socks, supporter, t-shirts and any optional padding they wish to equip themselves with (sweatbands, elbow pads, forearm pads, etc.)

What kind of Cheer shoes should I get?

We recommend a cheer shoe that is comfortable to your child. Many brands fit differently so we also recommend trying out a few shoes before making a selection.

When and where are uniforms distributed?

Uniforms are generally distributed during the last week of July.
